It also includes treatments that are complex and require the expertise of dentists, such as sinus lift and bone grafting combined with implant placement.

All on 4 Dental Implants

The ‘All on 4’ dental implant is a placement of four implants into the jawbone to anchor a fixed denture. This treatment is ideal for individuals who are fully edentulous or those who have lost some teeth, with the remaining dentition in compromised condition. The ‘All on 4’ approach can be applied to both upper and lower jaws, offering patients a heightened sense of confidence and a more seamless transition to their new teeth compared to removable alternatives.

The merits of the ‘All on 4’ treatment are as follows:

  • Expedited procedure: Dental implant surgery and denture placement can often be accomplished within the same day, with occasional exceptions necessitating 2-3 days for additional bone grafting.
  • This allows patients to promptly resume their daily routines.
  • Minimal invasiveness: The utilization of only four dental implants obviates the need for multiple surgeries. This reduces the likelihood of complications and circumvents extensive bone grafting procedures.
  • Enhanced functionality: The integration of implants with the jawbone affords dentures exceptional stability, enabling patients to chew with considerable force and experience a sensation akin to natural teeth.
  • Cost-effective: This approach is generally more economical than a full-mouth dental implant procedure.
  • Unwavering stability: Dentures remain securely in place during eating and speaking, alleviating concerns of slippage or displacement.
  • Convenience: The need for removal is infrequent.

Furthermore, ‘All on 4’ dental implants are well-suited for individuals who are fully edentulous or possess only a few remaining teeth, effectively replacing the entirety of the dentition. This affords patients the ability to eat with assurance and enjoy an elevated quality of life.

However, there are certain limitations to consider with ‘All on 4’ dental implants, including a potentially higher cost compared to removable dentures and contraindications for individuals with specific health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, or congenital disorders. If you are contemplating the ‘All on 4’ dental implant procedure, it is imperative to seek a consultation with a specialized dentist for a comprehensive evaluation of your oral health and a personalized treatment recommendation.

CAD/CAM, Technology for One Day Dental Restorations

Accidents can happen to any one and any time. They may cause physical injured and organ damage. One of the human part that are the most frequently affected by accidents is tooth, especially the incisors. Losing one of these tooth can affects confidence because the incisors are the most visible tooth during smiling or talking. Therefore, quick restoration on an injured tooth within a short period of time can prevent patient from worrying about waiting for the dental restorations.

Using the CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) technology can shorter the process of making dental restorations to 1-2 days which traditionally the procedure take 1-2 weeks. The traditional dental restoration process is quite complex and takes a longer time. However, the CAD/CAM technology helps shorten the process as it scans teeth and designs dental restorations with a computer. This allows a patient to see 3D visualization of the restorations before making real ones to decide whether they fit the existing teeth or not. In non complicated cases patient can wear the restorations in 1-2 days.

Losing tooth from accident dental Implants can be the treatment of choices.

Accidents can happen at any time and anywhere. Accident are one of the factors that can lead to tooth loss. These accidents include falling and bumping against a hard surface. If a tooth is chipped, split or cracked in half which in some case it can be hard to clean due to the pain and also reduced the ability of mastication.

In case a tooth has been lost due to an accident seeing a dentist right away is recommended. As there are many procedures available to treat and restore an injured tooth, the dentist will decide what is the best treatment plan by looking at the patient’s demands and the condition of the remaining teeth. However, in case that the injured tooth needs to be removed replacing it with a dental implant is a good choice.

In the case that the tooth is severely damaged and impossible to chew food as normal the treatment will require expertise of an oral and maxillofacial surgeon or a dental implant specialist to make a treatment plan.

Before the treatment the dental specialist will perform dental radiograph to see the detail of patient’s injured tooth which will allow the specialist to make more precise treatment plan. Then the dentist will conduct an assessment of the tooth. If the tooth is impossible to be restored the dentist will remove it.

After the tooth is removed the dentist will evaluate the alveolar bone. If the bone is enough and present with no inflammation a dental implant can be proceed to replace the missing tooth.

Maxillary sinus bone graft for dental Implants

Sinus lift is a kind of bone graft procedure. It is performed when patient’s loss maxillary molar for long period of time since the maxillary molar anatomy tend to have roots near the sinus cavity as a result losing one of these tooth may cause the sinus membrane to move downward to the space where the tooth was once located.

If the replacement of the tooth require by using dental implants in this particular case the oral and maxillofacial surgery dentist needs to perform sinus lift surgery before placement of the dental implant. The surgery will provide enough space for dental implant placement. In the surgery, the sinus tissue is lifted and then a bone graft will be placed and then the surgical area will be suture and cover with artificial tissue. The recovery period should be approximately six months. After this period, the bone will become stable enough and then the dental implants can be placed in the next step.

In case dental implants are placed without sinus lift surgery the dental implants can injure the sinus tissue which lead to sinusitis. Apart from this problem, if the bone is not strong enough to support the dental implants it will also affect the stability of the dental implants.

A dental implant insertion done together with sinus lifting is a complicated procedure that requires the expertise of a dentist to be completed. The treatment plan and process may differ in each case depend on the dentist and the patient.

Bone deteriorate caused by missing tooth

When the teeth has been lost due to an oral disease or any other factors as the result the space from missing teeth will occur. If the gap is untreated the result may cause the bone in particular area gradually degenerate and eventually result in a reduced bone mass.In such case, dental implants cannot be inserted right away the dental bone grafting is required to increase the bone mass which is necessary in order to support dental implants.

In the scenario that the gap between the teeth is left for a long period of time the treatment process may become longer and increase dental costs as bone graft is required before inserting dental implants.

If a patient does not want to undergo the bone graft procedure, removable dentures or dental bridge can be the alternative treatment choice. However, these alternatives can cause discomfort when chewing more than dental implants. The dental implants is the fixed restoration that mimics the natural tooth behavior best.

Importance of Bone Grafts for Dental Implants

Dental implants are one treatment option available nowadays to replace lost teeth. These implants look natural, but the surgical process differs from person to person. One main factor that determines how the surgery will turn out to be is the amount of the existing bone in the area where dental implants will be placed.

The bone of each person differs in width and height, depending on how long a tooth has been lost and that person’s age. Apart from aging, there are many factors that cause bone degeneration. Degenerated bones are one obstacle to insertion of dental implants. That is why some patients may be required to undergo the dental bone graft procedure before inserting dental implants.

Bone grafting for dental implants is done to increase the width and height of the bone to be compatible with the diameter and length of dental implants. This will allow for long-term use of implants. Bone grafts will act like house pillars which need to be deep enough under the soil to support the house.

There are two main types of bone grafts for dental implants:

  1. Doing bone grafting together with inserting dental implants
  2. Doing only bone grafting first, then waiting for the bone to connect with the existing one before scheduling to insert dental implants later.

A dentist will select the most proper type of bone grafts by looking at the remaining ridge.

Doing any of the two types of bone grafting will lengthen the overall treatment period and make the surgery more complicated and costly. However, from a global study, it was found that bone grafts for dental implants raise the success rate of maintaining the dental implants in the long run for those who do not have enough ridge left.

Dental Implant Process

There are many causes of tooth loss, such as untreated tooth decay and gum disease. This causes problems in everyday life, including food chewing and no confidence while smiling. Therefore, “dental implants” are one suitable choice of treatment.

Dental Implant Process

1. Doing oral health checks

Oral health checks are the first thing that a dentist does. X-Rays or CT-Scans may be recommended for thorough oral assessment. An initial treatment plan and assessment of treatment duration are made in this step.

2. Performing dental implant procedure

After the dentist has made a treatment plan, the dentist will locate where to insert dental implants in the jawbone. After that, the gum will be cut open and holes will be drilled into the bone to insert the implants. The recovery period is around 1-2 months. During this period, the bone will heal and attach to the implants.

3. Putting on dental crowns or inserting artificial teeth

After the bones have attached to the dental implants in the recovery period, the dentist will make an appointment with the patient to put on dental crowns or insert artificial teeth. They will replace the real teeth that have been lost. With the new teeth, the patient can chew food normally.

4. Follow-ups

After the new teeth have been placed, the dentist will schedule a follow-up with the patient to assess the effectiveness of the implants as well as to give warnings and recommendations on how to take care of the implants. Although dental implants can function like natural teeth, if the oral cavity is not properly cleaned, problems may follow.
